Shevona Harris, M.S.Ed, LPC

Shevona Harris received her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services and her Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling, both from Old Dominion University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia.

Shevona has been in the mental health field for 10 years, working with individuals of all ages. She got her start working at a residential facility for adults with intellectual disabilities. She then cemented her love for the mental health field while working at an inpatient psychiatric hospital, specializing in individuals with severe mental illnesses. While working inpatient, she also worked with children and adolescents in long term residential facilities due to severe oppositional behaviors. She has also worked with substance abuse and detoxification services and in community based services, including mental health skill building, case management, and psychosocial rehabilitation services. She has thorough experience with group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, assessment and diagnoses, treatment planning, advocacy, and linking to resources.

Shevona has a passion in the mental health field because of it’s constant growth and change. She enjoys establishing rapport with her clients and educating them on their needs and resources. She prides herself on her ability to connect with clients of various functioning levels and mental health concerns. She considers herself a “half glass full” individual and attempts to see the positive side in all situations. She also prides herself on being open minded and nonjudgmental, knowing every individual has their own story. She believes that every client has potential when treated with respect, empathy, and understanding.
