Marva Thomas, BS, QMHP
I’m the Program Manager at the Newport News H.U.F. Center.
Marva has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor in Social Work from the College of New Rochelle in New York City and is a Qualified Mental Health Professional in Virginia, working with individuals living with mental illness. Prior to discovering her passion to serve individuals with mental illness, she spent 15 years a Residential Coordinator for individuals with developmental disabilities.
Marva gained extensive experience working as a Case Manager for adults with severe and persistent mental illness and co-occurring diagnoses living in the New York City homeless shelter system where she provided intakes, assessments, and referrals for 5 years until relocating to the Hampton Roads region in 2012. Upon relocating to the Hampton Roads region, Marva joined the HUF center in Newport News where she spent 5 years as a Case Manager providing quality mental health services for our mentally ill population, and has recently promoted to the Program Manager position in the Newport News site.
Marva displays leadership abilities and as a Program Manager, is dedicated to and responsible for the overall functioning of the Newport News location. She takes pride in working with her team to ensure the members needs are met through collaboration with other Mental Health Professionals and community entities. She is passionate about enhancing the quality of life for individuals that live with mental illness.
Marva is looking forward to continue to support this population and those professionals working with this population to ensure the delivery of quality psychosocial rehabilitation services.
