APRIL SMALLS

I’m the Program Manager at the Colonial Heights H.U.F. Center.

April received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Clemson University in Clemson, SC and master’s degree in Counseling from Webster University in Myrtle Beach, SC. April is a Qualified Mental Health Professional for Adults and Children.

April has worked in the Mental Health Field for over 2 decades. April began her career right out of college working for a local Economic Opportunity Counsel (E.O.C) in South Carolina helping children and families locate resources/services and advocate for themselves to receive services. April then worked with the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice as a counselor before moving to Virginia in 2002. After relocation to Virginia, April has spent most of her career working with adults who suffer from severe and persistent mental illness and co-occurring disorders. April has also worked with children and adolescents with mental illness, Autism spectrum disorders and intellectual functioning disorders. April has a vast experience and knowledge in the field to include numerous different settings. April has worked in-patient at a psychiatric hospital, community service board and community mental health settings.

April takes pride in helping others and giving the best possible care she can. April’s passion is working with individuals in the mental health field and enhancing their well-being. April leads by example and believes that all deserve respect and compassion.
