I’m a Clinical Coordinator at the Newport News H.U.F. Center.
Kaneka has 8 years of experience working in community mental health with children, adolescents and adults in individual and group settings as well as veterans with over 5 years in supervisory experience. Kaneka has previously served as a Clinical Intervention Specialist for the Therapeutic Day Treatment program where she was influential in streamlining program policy and documentation; co-facilitating Middle/High School summer camp and served as the program Super-User for the new electronic record.
Kaneka also served as a group co-facilitator for Newport News Juvenile Drug Court and a Virginia Independent Clinical Assessment Program clinician at the Hampton-Newport News Community Services. Most recently, Kaneka served in the role of Clinical Director and consultant for private mental health agencies where she has assisted with organizational restructuring, the development of policies and growth of programs. Additionally, Kaneka has served as a field/practicum instructor for Christopher Newport University, Liberty University, Norfolk State University, South University and William & Mary University. Currently, Kaneka is Clinical Coordinator of the HUF Center’s Psychosocial Rehabilitation program for adults with primary mental health diagnosis, dual diagnosis, and/or co-existing disorders in Newport News & Norfolk sites.
Kaneka has a strong desire to develop and cultivate the strengths of individuals and families so that they are equipped with the skills and resources necessary to resolve conflicts, manage life stressors, and achieve higher levels of functioning in everyday situations. Additionally, Kaneka has a passion for training and she enjoys helping other mental health professionals meet their professional goals. She strives to lead by example as she has a strong desire to see others excel in every aspect of their lives.
